It's simply a must to visit the Hermitage Museum. Even if you’re not very fond of arts. It is the "Crown Jewel" on the museum list in St. Petersburg. The Hermitage is one of the most famous  and largest museums in the world. It consists of 5 interconnected buildings. One of the buildings of the Hermitage museum used to be  the winter residence of the royal family - the Winter Palace. The Small Hermitage is the actual birth place of the museum where empress Catherine II kept her private art collection. Very few people could be invited to Small Hermitage. The other buildings are: the old Hermitage, where they display Italian collection, the New Hermitage which was opened as public museum in 1852 and Hermitage theater where ballet performances are held. The museum has over hermitage 3.000.000 items in it. If you spend only one minute in front of each piece of art which is on exposition you will need 3 years. If you are restricted in time it’s better to take our guided tour which concentrates on the gems of the collection.

It's also possible to add a tour of a Gold room or a Diamond room of the Hermitage at extra cost (140€  per group up to 15 people). In the Gold room they represent Scythian and Sarmatian artefacts unearthed from the burial mounds of the steppes on the Black Sea coast as well as Greek gold objects and Oriental jewellery of more recent times. In the Diamond room they display the diplomatic gifts presented to Russian Tsars and Tsarinas. Various gifts are richly decorated with diamonds and precious stones that sparkle with all the colors of the rainbow. Please keep in mind, that due to the large number of tourists wanting to see these rooms you have to book the tour of the Gold or Diamond room at least a MONTH before the tour date. Moreover, this tour should be fully paid for right away so the money for this tour is non-refundable in case of a no-show or late cancellation.
