Pavlovsk is a former summer residence of Emperor Paul I and his wife. It is a wonderful summer palace that is famous for one of the best English type landscape parks in Russia surrounding it. In 1777 Catherine II gave these lands (about 525 hectares) to her son Paul on the occasion of the birth of his son and heir, Alexander. The Pavlovsk palace was designed by Charles Cameron using as his prototype the famous Villa Rotonda that Palladio built near Vincenza in 1552.
The palace is a great example of classicism as no major alterations have been made to it since the beginning of the 19th century. Moreover, they managed to save the collections of the palace during the World War II. During the tour you will learn a lot about the reign and life of emperor Paul I, feel the warm and cosy atmosphere of a royal home.

Duration of a private tour: 4 hours (including the drive there and back to St. Petersburg). May be more if you decide to walk in the park a little longer after the palace tour.
Tour tip: It might be a good idea to have a tour of Pavlovsk after visiting Catherine's Palace in Pushkin as these residences are only 15 minutes drive away.
