Peter and Paul's fortress is the birthplace of St. Petersburg. The spire of Peter and Paul's Cathedral is more than 368 feet (122.5 meters). The Cathedral is the tallest architectural building of St. Petersburg
Palace Square, that is in front of the Winter Palace, is the heart of the city. This yellow building has the longest facade in Europe - it is 0,36 miles long (580 meters).
This Cathedral probably reminds you of the Cathedral of St. Peter in Rome, although it is not as huge. They believe that the icon of Our Lady of Kazan, that is now in this functioning Orthodox Cathedral, helped Russians to win the war against Napoleon in 1812.
Mon plaisir means "my pleasure". It was the first small palace built in Peterhof, on the shore of Finland's Bay. It was a private palace of Peter I who had his study there.
Since the middle of the 18th century and till 1917 the Grand Palace of Peterhof was the main summer residence of the royal family. Inside the palace is richly decorated with gold, valuable types of wood and precious stones. Definitely one of the main attractions of Peterhof
St. Petersburg was planned as a European city, a mixture of Venice and Amsterdam. At least, that's what Peter I wanted it to be. The are about 300 bridges in the city center alone (more than in Venice!), and more than 500 bridges within the city borders.
The Lower park of Peterhof, decorated with numerous fountains, is the favorite place for families with kids to spend their weekends. There is no place like it all over the world.
